It makes me shake my head when I hear things like”there is no GOD”, “there is no Santa Claus” , or even “the death penalty being a deterrent.”
First off, I guess Obi-Wan said it best in the movie Star Wars when he told Luke “ Luke, you’re going to find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own point of view.”
In a strange way life is like Star-Wars. There is good- Luke. There is bad – The emperor. And GOD and HEAVEN would be “THE FORCE”. And in the end Luke (GOOD) uses the force (GOD) to save Darth Vader’s soul so that he could go to heaven (The Force again). There is no doubt in my mind that there is something greater than us all out there. I know what I consider it to be and it is up to you to make up your own mind. Only an idiot who doesn’t believe at all will fall for anything.
Second, Santa Claus on the other hand, exists today only in our hearts. He was based off of a real person true enough, but it’s his spirit of brotherly love, relief and family that makes him real.
Christmas is not just a single date where we honor the birth of JESUS but it is a season of spending time with those we love. It is also a time where we should all come together no matter what our differences and help each other. Be our brother’s keeper, if you will. It should also be a time of forgiveness, cheer and remembering the past and those who have moved on to that place where we all hope to see each other again for eternity.
And finally, my opinion about the death penalty being a deterrent. The death penalty wasn’t designed to be no more of a deterrent for committing a heinous crime than that of a lock keeping a burglar out of your house. The only thing a lock does is keep an honest man honest. And the only thing that the death penalty is supposed to do is to get rid of the truly evil sons of bitches in this world so that people might have something that is needed after a tragedy, closure. Vengeance is mine sayeth the LORD. In my opinion though I think it is up to our justice system to arrange the meeting a little quicker sometimes.
And I think the GOOD LORD understands it all because he may be tough, but he aint blind.
